. The kiwi is a flightless bird. It is brown with a golden beak.  It is the icon for NZ.  The kiwi is a bird, it is an omnivore.

It eats worms, berries and seeds.The kiwi is native to NZ .  They are almost extinct so there are not many in the wild. Kiwi breeders  are trying to bring 

 them back into the wild but there are too many predators. The kiwi is really special to NZ.The kiwi are hard to keep the population of the  kiwi up because of the pest like stoats weasels  and rats that eat their eggs.

    From Mum - the pests like rats and stoats were introduced by the English settlers. So they were 'migrants' too. Othewise kiwi didn't have any natural predators.
